Say HI* to our Radar Evaluator role

Are you the driven engineer who can validate advanced radar systems and demonstrate their quality to customers worldwide?

As a Radar Evaluator at Thales, you are the person who operates the radar exactly as the end user would but in a controlled test environment. You run the system, test every capability, and form the essential bridge between our development teams and our customers. You don’t just verify that our systems function correctly; you analyze real-world data to determine whether a product meets its specifications and, more importantly whether it meets customer expectations. Your expertise is crucial to guaranteeing the acceptance of systems where reliable defense technology protects lives.

About the job

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze recorded radar trial data to assess whether system performance matches specifications and customer expectations

  • Write detailed evaluation reports that communicate complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Troubleshooting & Root-Cause Analysis

  • Identify, classify, and localize faults in complex radar systems and propose effective solutions. This is some of the most intellectually demanding work in the role

Test Planning & Execution

  • Plan and execute comprehensive tests with real air, weapon, and surface targets

  • Develop Factory and Site Acceptance Plans (FAT/SAT) with clearly defined test cases

  • Translate customer requirements into concrete, executable test procedures

  • Perform and automate complex technical tests at system and subsystem level

Tooling & Automation

  • Develop, improve, and maintain custom MATLAB tooling and test-specific scripts used for radar data analysis and evaluation

Customer Interface

  • Proactively align with customers on test plans and incorporate their feedback

  • Serve as the technical point of contact during customer acceptance of systems

  • Travel worldwide to perform tests at customer sites

A typical work week involves analyzing logged test data, preparing and planning test sessions, collaborating with internal teams such as system engineers and software engineers, coordinating with customers, and delivering targeted reports. You’ll be part of a team of 7 Radar Evaluators, while working day-to-day within project-specific teams of system, software, and test engineers. Experienced colleagues will guide, train, and support you as you grow into the role.

What you’ll bring

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline; or a Bachelor’s degree in these fields combined with relevant work experience (proven Radar and test knowledge and experience)

  • Demonstrable experience with software development and programming — particularly MATLAB. You’ll be writing and improving analysis scripts, so hands-on coding matters

  • Strong analytical skills with an eye for both detail and the bigger picture

  • The ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear language for diverse audiences

  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, both written and spoken

  • Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis and work on location for extended periods

  • A results-driven, resourceful approach to solving technical challenges

  • Motivation to validate defense technology that contributes to global security

Experience with radar systems is a strong advantage, as is a background as a (technical) naval officer. Knowledge of defense systems and an understanding of the end-user perspective are particularly valuable in this role. Ultimately, your ability to quickly master complex technical subject matter and think from the customer’s perspective is what counts most.
