About the job

As Category Manager you are part of the Thales Netherlands Procurement team as well as the Global Category team. In this role you are pro-actively supporting and coaching the Category Buyers within the ‘Mechanical’ and ' Electronical' procurement segment C and D.


With your experience you help and drive to build/optimize local Category strategies in line with the business needs and coherent with the strategy defined by the GCM (Global Category Manager) for the world-wide Category.


You lead or support the full procurement process as needed from requisition until end of contract ensuring competitiveness, quality and timely delivery. You are able to negotiate and bridge gaps to satisfy the needs of your stakeholders as well as coaching other Category Buyers. 


You are able to lead cross functional teams through the Category Technology Teams between Procurement, Engineering and Supply Chain in developing strategies, implementation and managing the supply base. Managing internal and external stakeholders is key in building close relations with your suppliers in order to make supplier knowledge and competitiveness available to the benefit of Thales products and services.

Your responsibilities include:


  • Shape, communicate and steer implementation of the Category strategy

  • Drive selection, negotiation and contracting of suppliers

  • Manage and control supplier performances

  • Identify and achieve cost reductions and improvements in cooperation with the suppliers and stakeholders

  • Coach Category Buyers in the above


What you’ll bring

If you are a creative, enthusiastic team player with great negotiation and communication skills in fluent English and Dutch, then you might be the person we are looking for.


  • You are able to build good relationships with external and internal stakeholders

  • Experience with relational contracting is a strong plus

  • Knowledge of German and/or French are a plus

  • You have relevant strategic Procurement or commercial experience

  • You have completed a relevant higher education
