Say HI* to our NPI Engineer role

"The people we rely on to keep the world turning – they rely on Thales." In a rapidly changing and increasingly unpredictable world full of opportunities, people come to us with great ambitions: to make life better and safer. Our employees, part of a unique and diverse team with many different expertises, talents, and cultures, develop and deliver high-quality high-tech solutions.

Thales employs 81,000 highly talented people in 68 countries. Nearly 3,000 of them work in the Netherlands. We are one of the largest high-tech employers in the field of safety and security.

We help our customers think smarter and act faster in defense, aerospace, aircraft technology, and cyberspace. This enables them to manage and control increasingly complex processes and make the best business decisions. That's why we play a leading role in digital transformation, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, Big Data & Data Analytics, Connectivity, Mobility, the Internet of Things, and Cybersecurity. In the Netherlands, we are located in four cities: Huizen, Delft, Eindhoven, and Hengelo (headquarters). In Huizen, we provide a wide range of engineering solutions to the Royal Netherlands Army to support their communication and situational awareness needs. One of the most important subsystems is SOTAS, which provides audio communication and IT infrastructure within a military vehicle. In addition to standard products, we also offer customer-specific solutions, including proof of compliance with customer requirements.

For the SOTAS Hardware Engineering Team, Thales (Huizen) is looking for a talented NPI Engineer.

About the job

The Hardware Engineering team (35 FTE) translates customer requirements into robust technical solutions qualified according to military standards. To make the products optimally suitable for production, manufacturing engineers work closely with the hardware development team. The focus is on the development and release of electronic PCBAs and mechanical parts (such as enclosures). We outsource the production of these components to our partners. The SOTAS product is assembled and functionally tested at our facility.

In your role in the HW engineering team, you will serve as the bridge to EMS and other departments within Thales. This will accelerate the transition from new and existing PCBAs to series production. To guarantee that we deliver high-quality products to our customers, you will ensure that both internal and external production teams know exactly how the product should be produced and tested. To this end, you will compile data packages and work instructions and proactively communicate with EMS partners and internal production.

Your main responsibilities will be:

• Technical interface between the hardware development teams and EMS/suppliers.

• Optimizing production lead times by gaining insight into EMS processes.

• Supporting suppliers to continuously improve quality and cost prices.

• Supervising production when issues arise with PCBAs.

• Identifying long lead times and coordinating with project teams.

• Maintaining an overview of outstanding orders and contribute to the purchasing process.

• Coordinate new and existing product changes with the EMS.

What you’ll bring

We are looking for a new colleague who:

• Has experience in the manufacturing and electronics industry as an NPI Engineer.

• At least 3+ years of experience in a similar position.

• Is a creative and analytical thinker who always seeks smart solutions.

• Has a higher professional education (HBO) degree or equivalent through experience.

• Has good communication skills, is proactive, and can work independently.

• Can express themselves fluently in Dutch and English, both in speaking and in writing.

What you’ll gain:

Wherever your passion lies, Thales can help you make the best use of your skills and creativity. As a contractor at Thales, you can expect to experience:

  • An interesting job within a team of experts in an international high-tech environment.

  • Room for and attention to personal development and personal initiative.

  • The opportunity to grow within the organization, whether in a technical, managerial, commercial or international capacity.

  • A flexible work environment with a focus on maintaining a good work-life balance.
