Within the Naval Engineering cluster, the Applications department is responsible for the development of Combat and Information Management systems for naval vessels, as well as their integration with sensor and weapon systems. These complex systems encompass advanced solutions in information processing, information management, user interaction, and sensor and weapon control. Our software thus provides essential support for missions ranging from counter-piracy operations to defense against long-range missiles.


About the job

For the Naval Engineering/Applications department, Thales (Hengelo) is seeking a talented Software Architect Infrastructure with a passion for technology and the ambition to build a career in a high-tech environment, in a role such as System Engineer, System Architect, or Project Manager.


As a Software Architect, you have both a creative and technical leadership role within our projects. On one hand, you are involved in designing architectural solutions, and on the other hand, you ensure that the technical requirements are met throughout the development process. In this capacity, you engage in discussions and maintain an overall view of the entire system.

We place great importance on the application of high-tech techniques and methods. Software development is primarily based on Java and is supported by a modern development environment.



What you’ll bring


Do you have a passion for technology and find it exciting to work on the high-tech architecture of Naval Command & Control systems? Are you a creative, open, flexible team player with great communication skills in fluent Dutch and English? Then you might be the person we are looking for.


  • You have completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

  • You are a talented and experienced Software Architect who enjoys contributing to the design and development of software solutions in our complex Naval domain.

  • You have a strong background in Java development with modern development methods and tools.

  • You are able to quickly grasp new domains and technologies. Additionally, you have strong analytical skills and a vision for how an IT landscape should look, and you are able to steer the organization in that direction.

  • You have knowledge and experience with the following tools and technologies:

    • Agile software development with Scrum

    • Java, Swing, Linux, IntelliJ

    • Continuous Integration & Delivery

    • Jenkins, Nexus, and Maven/Gradle, GIT/SVN

    • Unit Testing, Test Automation
