Say HI* to our Obsolescence Engineer role

At Thales, the electronics components market is closely monitored. All electronic components have a lifecycle, starting from the introduction phase and eventually reaching the obsolete/end-of-life phase. For both spare parts and new builds, the availability of these components is crucial.

Within the Obsolescence Management group, plans and strategies are developed to identify and mitigate the effects of component phase-outs. This helps to minimize the impact on operational availability for both us and our (internal and external) customers.

You will be in contact with various employees within the organization. The Obsolescence Management department is closely connected with departments such as Services & Lifecycle Policies, Supply Chain, Engineering, various Product Teams, and also with customers.

We are currently looking for an: Obsolescence Engineer.

About the Job

As an Obsolescence Engineer, you play a proactive, monitoring role. You’ll use our in-house ERP systems, which contain detailed data on all our radar and command & control systems, down to the component level.

It’s essential that you monitor the lifecycle of these components and process any changes. After all, components are continuously being developed and older versions will become unavailable. Based on our internal systems, you will identify whether shortages are expected for (critical) components. If so, you’ll coordinate with Obsolescence Managers to draw up a plan. For example, the decision might be made to purchase additional components or to redesign the system. Given the large number of information systems, it's important to continually assess the validity of the data. Having a good overview of your area of responsibility is crucial, as is an interest in understanding how these systems work.

This role requires both technical and administrative insight. Tools such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access are used for data processing. In this way, you contribute to the long-term usability of Thales systems.

In summary you will be:

  • Coordinating and executing obsolescence monitoring for Thales systems;

  • Coordinating with (internal and external) suppliers regarding the delivery of obsolescence information;

  • Preparing obsolescence reports.

What you’ll bring

We are looking for a creative, proactive, result-oriented team player who has:

  • MBO-level work and thinking (secondary vocational education);

  • Experience in a technical environment;

  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel and preferably MS Access;

  • If you are interested in further developing your knowledge of MS Access (or similar software), we’d love to hear it!

  • Strong communication skills in both Dutch and English.

What you’ll gain:

Wherever your passion lies, Thales can help you make the best use of your skills and creativity. As a contractor at Thales, you can expect to experience:

  • An interesting job within a team of experts in an international high-tech environment.

  • Room for and attention to personal development and personal initiative.

  • The opportunity to grow within the organization, whether in a technical, managerial, commercial or international capacity.

  • A flexible work environment with a focus on maintaining a good work-life balance.
